John H.(Jack) Oliver
I am known to my friends as Jack and was born in Adams, Tn. On the 3rd of Nov. 1936..
After attending elementary and high school in Robertson county I attended Tennessee Tech where I received a BS degree in Health and Physical Education and a Commission as a Distinguished Military Graduate, entering the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry. During my career I attended the following Military schools, The Infantry Officers Basic Course, Paratrooper Training, US Army Helicopter Training, Infantry Officers Advanced Course, US Army Fixed-wing Aviation School and The US Army Command and Staff College.
My assignments included tours at Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Wolters, Tx., Fort Benning ,Ga., South Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Fort Leavenworth, Ks., and The Pentagon in Washington, DC.
While in the military I was awarded the following awards and decorations: The Silver Star, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, three Bronze Stars with V for valor, twenty two Air Medals (two w/v), the Vietnamese Cross Gallantry with Gold Leaf, two Legions of Merit three Army Commendation Medals and many other awards including Master Army Aviation Wing and Senior Jump Wings.
After retiring from the Army as a full Colonel I was able to devote full time to my love of hunting and fishing. Not only do I enjoy hunting and fishing but, maybe more, I enjoy teaching others about the outdoors. I joined Hunter’s Specialties the last year I was in the military. I was available upon retirement to spend more time giving seminars, guiding and doing in-store promotions. For the last 22 years I have operated the fishing dock at Camp Rainbow (a camp for terminal and critically ill children) teaching hundreds of kids how to fish. In 2007 I was sent by Hunter’s Specialties to guide at the St  Judes Hunt for a Cure turkey hunt. In 2000 I was inducted into the Tennessee Turkey Hunter’s Hall of Fame.
I have been married for 49+ years to the love of my life, the former Sue Vick. We have three grown children Vicki, Jacqui and John jr, and six grand children. We currently live in the Clarksville, Tn. Area.
