Jim Crumley
Jim Crumley was born in Morganton, NC in 1947.  He was raised in Bristol, VA and began his hunting career at the age of 5 walking beside his Dad on small game hunts, and acting as his retriever on September dove hunts.  Jim began carrying a gun with his Dad at age 8, and received his first gun on his 10th birthday.
Jim graduated from high school in 1965, and was introduced to deer and spring turkey hunting while a student at Virginia Tech from 1965-69.  He began bowhunting in the fall of 1969 and has been a bowhunting fanatic ever since.  He was employed by the Alexandria Virginia Public School System in 1969 and on weekends worked as a waterfowl and deer hunting guide on Maryland’s Eastern Shore from 1970 to 1980.
His addiction to hunting caused Jim to begin making his personal camouflage clothing in 1972 by tie-dyeing gray work clothes in brown dye.  In 1978 he began creating art work to make his clothing resemble the bark of a tree and in 1979 created the original Trebark® Camouflage pattern, the first non-military camouflage, and the first designed and marketed specifically for hunting.
Because of this Jim Crumley is often referred to as “the father of modern camouflage”.
Today Jim and wife Sherry continue their outdoor pursuits on their farm on the James River in Botetourt County, VA.
