In 1960, I married Vicki Allen and we were together 53 ½ years until her death

A graduate of Downsville High School, Downsville, La. where I lettered four years in baseball and basketball.


• Started hunting in 1963; killed first deer, and 8 point buck, in 1964. 

• I have harvested 103 deer with bow and gun; 26 which have been trophy bucks for the area I hunt. 

• Note…I have never been on a paid hunt where a trophy was the expectation.

•  Today, I only hunt trophy bucks with my gun; gave up bow hunting in 2005.



• Started Turkey hunting in 1972. 

• I have taken 92 turkeys; all except 11 have been long-bearded gobblers. 

• I harvested my last Jake in 1989. 

• Note…I have guided and called in several gobblers for other hunters, and have filmed many more.


• I joined the National Wild Turkey Federation in 1977. 

• I am a charter member and have served as president of the North Central LA NWTF Chapter. 

• I became State Chapter President in 1980.

• I served two years as President and two years as Vice President.

• I was elected to the National Board of Directors for the NWTF in 1984.

• I served 6 years on the National Board of Directors for the NWTF.

• In 1991, I was elected to the LA State NWTF Board of Directors.

• I served for 12 years on the LA State NWTF Board of Directors.

• I am a Charter member of my local Chapter, the Union Long Spurs, and served as President for the first three years.

• I am currently on the Board of Directors, and serve on the Banquet Committee.

• I have been a volunteer for NWTF for 37 consecutive years.

• I have attended every NWTF convention except two since 1981, (31 out of 33 years).

• I am a Silver Life Member of NWTF, and have donated many thousands of dollars to NWTF since becoming a member.

• I was the Runner-Up in the 1983 La. State Turkey Calling Championship.

• I was the “Grand Champion” in the 1984 La. State Turkey Calling Championship.

• I have served as a Judge in the Grand National Calling Contest for NWTF the past 20 years.

• I led the La. State Chapter to become the first to have a stamp print program.


• I have also been a member of the NRA since 1968

• I have also been a member of Ducks Unlimited since 1990.

• I have also been a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation since 1994.

• I still actively participate in hunting deer, turkey, ducks, doves, and squirrels, (I only use my 22 rifle for Squirrel hunting).


• I am the owner of Cedar Hill Game Calls, LLC, having started the company in 1981.

• Our first call was the Legendary “Little Scratch Box”, the call that the Scratch Box category of box calls was named for.  We have sold over 50,000 of these calls, all of which are hand-made.

• I also own CamoCord, LLC, a company I purchased from Bill Harold, Knoxville, TN. in 2003.

• Both Companies have generated $600,000.00 annually in gross sales.


• I am a Southern Baptist by faith, and have been a Deacon at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Downsville, La. Since 1978.

• I have served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for the past 20 years.
